The project

The project "e-Dispilio: DIGITAL REPRESENTATION, PROMOTION, AND DISPLAY OF THE PREHISTORIC LAKESIDE SETTLEMENT OF DISPILIO" was implemented by the Research Committee of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) within the framework of the action "Protection and Promotion of Cultural Heritage and Their Functional Networking – TRANSFERRED WORKS" of the "Western Macedonia 2021-2027" Program.

The implementation of the project resulted in the creation of a modern digital exhibition for the presentation of the prehistoric lakeside settlement of Dispilio, which is hosted at the Visitor Reception Centre at the entrance of the archaeological site in Dispilio.

The aim of the project was to provide an unprecedented and pleasant experience to the visitor, by using innovative technologies for the presentation of all the scientifically documented conclusions that have emerged from the many years of excavation research and recent studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Dispilio.

In the framework of the project, the following actions were implemented:

-Museological conceptual and exhibition design of the digital exhibition and its hosting space at the Visitor Reception Centre.

-Graphic museological design with specific solutions for the exhibition logo, the brochure and the project's promotional posters.

-Creation of a digital map of the lake settlement area, using a map-centric portal.

-Creation of 3D photorealistic models and creation of a Virtual Reality (VR) tour application of the Neolithic lakeside settlement.

-Creation of a 3D video model of a neolithic house construction.

-Creation of a video presentation of the archaeological site, the excavation work and the most important conclusions from the research of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki at Dispilio.

-Creation of an Augmented Reality (AR) application for the presentation of the Neolithic lakeside settlement, suitable for interactive use on a tablet or smartphone.

-Creation of 3D models of objects displayed in the form of holograms in specially designed displays in the Visitor Reception Centre.

-Creation of two educational games, which users can play on two special large-size touch screens.

-Provision of the equipment required for the operation and use of the digital applications, including their installation and configuration.

-Promotion and publicity activities (creation of a portal, promotion via the Internet, social media, radio and television, creation of a printed guide to the exhibition and a brochure).

-Organization of a workshop to promote the project.
