Living by the lake

The shores of Lake Kastoria (L. Orestis) were the place for the creation of the first settlement of the people who inhabited Dispilio around 5800 BC.

The settlement in a wet environment, i.e. on the shores of the lake, is the peculiarity of Dispilio, which is why it is described as a lakeside settlement. The lakeside settlement of Dispilio is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe.
